TMS Treatment AZ

From Dr. Schulte

I see each person as an incredible summation of biological, psychological, social, and spiritual dynamics. Treatment involves respecting and evaluating the interplay of all these aspects for your wellbeing.

A diagnostic evaluation is crucial at the beginning of treatment, but it is also an ongoing process that requires being open to new information as it appears. For most situations, psychotherapy is an important aspect of the treatment. Pills don’t teach skills or resolve personal issues. Dr. Schulte is one of the few psychiatrists that treats with medication and psychotherapy. He also works with many outside therapists in collaboration for patient care.

As it should be, family practice doctors, gynecologists, and internal medicine physicians treat many patients for depression and anxiety. Those that don’t respond well to that intervention benefit from the specialist who treats more difficult depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, addictions, eating disorders, and relationship issues. In my 43 years of experience, I continue to learn from my patient’s what works and what doesn’t work for them.

I continue to be amazed at the unfolding of the biological and psychological treatment approaches that benefit all of us. The body/mind interaction has always fascinated me. Psychopharmacology should be measured to each patient’s need. Sometimes unusual combinations of medications can help even the most refractory symptoms that can interfere with someone’s life and functioning.

One exciting new treatment for treatment-resistant depression is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). This procedure involves magnetic stimulation being given to the head-scalp-brain that helps relieve depression not helped by many prior antidepressant treatments. It is safer and has fewer side effects than Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). Many more insurance companies are now covering this treatment for appropriate patients. I invite you to browse our website and learn more regarding TMS.
